Avelyn Wexcombe, Court Barony, 2021

 O, the Northrealm! A land so bless’d,

With worthy nobles of the best!

In Skraeling Althing look around:

Carrots of gold spring from the ground!

This work of goodly Avelyn,

Eighth to sit the High Seats and reign,

Well-beloved in all her land

(Naught to do with that sword in hand…)

Bent her will to learning and jest,

(Eastrealm friends say “Give it a rest!”)

These years of service now are past,

Like bounding hares they run so fast!

Rattanicus and Isabel,

Your lieges speak – all ears compel,

Silver now encircles your brow,

Let none gainsay what we do now.

Done this 13 th Day of November, Anno Societatis LVI (56), as We celebrate the Feast of the Hare in Our

Canton of Caldrithig, where we have set Our Hands and Seal.

Wording by TH Lord Dietrich von Sachsen, based on the humorous verse “The Foxe and the Welle”.

Dafydd ap Alan, Court Barony, 2021

‘Tis said that gold grows not on trees,

Nor can it be fish’d from the seas,

But in fair Skraeling Althing bright,

Golden Carrots are their birthright.

Give thanks unto Dafydd’s labours –

Eighth of the land’s chosen leaders –

Defends his people with his blade,

Survived a kidnapper’s raid,

A noble fam’d for rapier wit,

(Dragon Dormant prefer’d he’d quit!)

Though time bids all to say goodbye,

Let joy, like rabbits, multiply!

Isabel and Rattanicus,

Northrealm sovereigns now sayeth thus:

From our hands take this coronet,

That for your service none may forget.

Done this 13 th Day of November, Anno Societatis LVI (56), as We celebrate the Feast of the Hare in Our

Canton of Caldrithig, where we have set Our Hands and Seal.

Shahid al-Hasan, Court Barony, 2018

Do not ask Evander for poems of light praise
Nor Marioun for paeans of the unworthy
This fair work, this pearl of wisdom,
From the mouth and mind of the lords of wolves
Is one tale of justice done
Oh Northland, make us acquainted with Shahid!
For one moment make us not separated from his dignity!

What need the land of worthy men?
In Shahid’s hand his sword, my pen.

Wolves, do not fear for honoured  man
This white rose of trillium gardens
Champion in the field of war
Adorn upon his brow a pearl’d band
To Their court they claim him, baron,
In Caldrithig, safar five and twenty,
Three and fifty as we count the Jāmiʿah

What need the land of worthy men?
In Shahid’s hand his sword, my pen.

Wording by Maister Colyne Stewart, based upon the poetry of the 16th century Turkish poets Fuzûlî and Yahya bey Dukagjini, and a quote regarding the 16th century poet Riyazi  by Ziya Pasha (an 18th century writer, translator and administrator).

Court Barony, Catherine of Townsend, 2018

Provided alwayes, and our will and pleasure is, and wee doe hereby declare to all that this noble came to us by the Seas thither, voyaged from the country of the lion with two tailes, and did improve this our lupine reaulme by her very presence.

And forasmuch, as upon the finding out, if in our land, or in any remote countreys and territories, any should challenge OUR word, they shall attaine great Paine and peril: and that upon such injurie, wee, our heires or successours shall make open proclamation that those who challenge our word shall be out of our protection and allegiance, and free for all princes and others to pursue with hostilitie as being not our Subjects, nor by us any way to be advowed, maintained or defended, nor to be holden as any of ours, nor to our protection, dominion or allegiance any way belonging, for that expresse mention, &c.

Rhiannon Elandris of Glyndyfyrdwy, Court Barony, 2016

Due commendations and greetings from Thomas Byron and Ariella, King and Queen of Sylvan AEthelmearc by right of Arms, to Our right trusty and well beloved Rhiannon Elandris of Glyndyfyrdwy. Whereas by the advice of those men and women with whom we have utmost trust, and in recognition of the decades of service which you have done for Shire, Barony, Canton, Principality and Kingdom, while upon horse or upon foot, we are minded to surround Ourselves with such barons as shall give us council in certain arduous and urgent and serious affairs concerning Us and the defense of Our Kingdom, that We command that you, waiving all excuses, place personally yourself before Us that we may make you a Baron of Our Court in recognition of the Service which you have done for more than a generation of souls within Our society. This act We do with joy in Our hearts on the 9th day of August, two score and eleven years after wise elders met at Mistland's Tourney, from which all days are numbered.

Wording by Baron Caleb Reynolds, inspired by Summons of a Baron to Parliament (1295).

Gunther Wahlstedt von Bremen, Court Barony

I heard of a good guardsman
Who worsted many foes
Well-girded with iron,
Who scouted the lands
And ran with the boar.

A quarter-master making fast every ship
Who ordered the feasting,
Carried the colours
And counted the cost.

Shields flashed in summer.
Spears on the mountain made
Mortal men flee.
Lethal yet modest,
The bear knew him then.

When wolves woke,
A right royal retainer
Arrayed in rich trappings
Followed the Trillium
And, joyful in battle,
Struck strife in strange lands.

Considered counsel, canny and courageous,
Solace of bow-song at dew-silvered dawn,
Doughty deed-scribe!
Gracious with gold and kindness concealed!

Twenty years have passed,
Steady and strong like oar-strokes.
Sweet song of sword-heart,
Trove of true counsel,
Who can say more?

Hear your King - Aaron, resolute and dauntless.
Hear your Queen - Rustique, whose eyes uncover all.
We have considered.

This great lord stands apart.
Patient and proven, pomp is your due.
We do what is fitting.

Mark the second day of the seventh month
In the forty-sixth year of our Society.
At sunset on Our battlefield,
The Trillium triumphant,
Where Ard Chreag has done Us honour,
The feast hall well furnished,
The honours are distributed.

Noble Gunther Wahlstedt von Bremen -
Wolf-friend and faithful -
We make you a Baron of Our Court.

Gerrard Carpentarius, Court Barony, 2013

In the land of Ealdormere, in the far reaches of the March of St. Martin, there lived a toymaker.   Some called him wicked, evil, and demented, and he said naught to dispel these rumours,  but every act he did belied his noble heart. He was of boundless support to the people of the March, his toys brought delight to young and old and his brush illuminated the deeds of the people, and he wielded a rapier with the joy and strength of a hammer. With largesse freely given, it was always Christmas in Ealdormere.   Seeing this, Trumbrand and Kaylah, Wandering King and Cheeful Queen, did decide to dispel the rumours once and for all and to recognize the nobility of heart of Gerrard Carpentarius.  On the eighteenth day of the month of May, in the forty-eighth year of the Society at their Crown Tourney, they did bestow upon him a coronet of silver adorned with six pearls and the rank of Baron of their Court. Let no one gainsay the nobility of this man, as hands and seal hereby attest.

Berend van der Eych, Court Barony, 2011

Trusty and well beloved: We Aaron and Rustique, King and Queen of Ealdormere be credibly informed that Berend van der Eych has enriched our Kingdom. Whereas anciently from the beginning the valiant and virtuous acts of worthy persons have been commended to the world with sundry monuments and remembrances of their good deeds. Berend van der Eych has done numerous commendable services for Crown and Kingdom and been a leader through example. It is only fitting that We should recognize his efforts and, upon the advice of Our citizens, herby bestow upon him the right to style himself Baron of Our court And though a Baron of the court holds no authority or power to command, yet is he to be granted such honor and respect as befits a person of great worth and courtesy. Therefore, in order that no misrepresentation may arise in the future, and wishing this to remain valid unto all posterity, We forbid that any one, with rash daring, infringe it or in any way attempt to violate it; and We validly corroborate this Our decree, signed by Our Hand and witnessed by those who are present at this deed on the (#) day of August Anno Societais (#) at Pennsic War.
