To all freeholders and the whole realm of Ealdormere do We, King Siegfried and Queen Ragni send all manner of filial reverence. We know from the chronicles and books of the ancients, that our Kingdom of Ealdormere has well earned widespread renown throughout the Known World for its wealth of histories, poems, songs, and stories and there exists such envy for the talent of those ollaves of Ealdormere who are able to create such chronicles.

There is one who through countless efforts has recorded such chronicles including deeds of war and tournament, tales of pilgrimage, triumphs in arts and sciences, challenges issued, service done and yet other endeavours without number, putting into words that which no one could describe nor fully imagine unless they had seen them with their own eyes so all should know and remember. From these labours our people and their heritage has been delivered out of the darkness of ignorance and forgetfulness of the passage of time and has been well preserved for all future generations to know and bear witness to the high qualities and noble deeds of the people of Ealdormere.

Such a man is Colyne Stewart. To this man, in as much as he has preserved word and deed of our people, we are bound both by law and by his merits that Ealdormere's renown may be still maintained, and come what may, we mean to stand and recognize such skill. Travis Vincent Greywolf, Award of the Scarlet Banner, 2014

From Siegfried, Rex, King of the Ealdormerans, and Ragni, Regina, Queen of the free folk of the northlands, to Our Heirs, Lawspeaker, Dukes, Duchesses, Counts, Countesses, Viscounts, Viscountesses, Barons, Baronesses, members of Our royal orders, and to all others to whom these presents may come, greetings.

As history records, the Society was first brought to Our realm by Sir Finnvarr de Taahe, known as the Iron Duke, and member of the Orders of Chivalry, the Pelican and the Laurel. This founding father was later to become the husband of Her Majesty, and began to gather around him a household of the worthy and the brave. Amongst those valiant few, Finnvarr took two erstwhile youths to squire, to stand as his vassals and as brothers one to the other. One of these squires would go on to become not only a knight in his own right, but indeed to become a king. This was His Majesty Siegfried. The other squire is known for wandering the world, always in search of adventure and fame, all to bring glory to his knight and household. In times of need or of war, this good gentle always returned to the fold and took up what ever tool was needed to aid his knight, his fellow squires and the other members of House De Taahe. With noble harness he is known at the Pennsic Wars for his diligence and skill with the sword. And this man is Travis Vincent Greywolf.

Know now that His Majesty looks kindly upon his brother-at-arms, as does Her Majesty, and They would have it known that They hold him in such high regard that They would bestow upon him an Award of the Scarlet Banner, so that all my know he is a proud and worthy fighter of the Kingdom of Ealdormere.

In the name of the great and unconquerable Wolves of the North, Siegfried and Ragni, by favour of boreal mercy, august king and queen of the Ealdormereans. Since human memory is short and does not suffice for a crowd of things, the authority of those who preceded our age, the divine emperors and kings, has decreed that those things were to be written down which the progress of fleeting time generally removes from the knowledge of men.

A. Wherefore let the generality of the present as well as the future subjects of our kingdom know, that Gottfried von Hengstberg, the redoubtable polearms man from the Harrowgate Heath, for the reason that he greatly impressed us with his joy and vigour on the field of battle, that he also engages in the right and proper pursuit of the arts of the bow, and his eagerness to assist in projects both great and small, and is in all ways a benefit to us and our kingdom, has incurred our pleasure.

B. We, therefore, after deliberating with our councilors, have agreed to elevate, raise and endow the aforesaid Gottfried, bestowing upon him an Award of Arms, and making him a lord of our realm.

We do confirm, therefore, this lawful investiture of our royal majesty onto Gottfried. And wishing this to remain valid for all posterity, we forbid by a royal edict that any one, with rash daring, infringe it or in any way attempt to violate it; and we validly corroborate this our decree by the present privilege, signed by the seal of our Majesty, this twenty-first day of June, in the forty-ninth year of the society, at the Summer Siege in our Canton of Harrowgate Heath.

In the name of the great Siegfried, lawful Ard Ri of All Ealdormere, who is as bold as a lion and who knows well sword-fame;

And in the name of the wise Ragni, to whom is born many red-speared warriors, and from whom treasures of all colours flow;

I praise the skillful man of the race of Fergus, Aidan Scoetend aet thaem Mistigum Merum - spirited in adversity, who neither grovels before the foeman, nor hordes treasure.

To bold Aidan, let all, from the mightiest Ri to the lowliest of slaves, know of your bow-skill, that neither sharp wind nor cold rain can cause falter to!

Keen-eyed is Aidan, whose arrows fly faster than even the golden chariot of Cú Chulainn! Whose arrows strike as true as sword of Brian of Old!

Loyal is Aidan, who wears the colours of his home well and with great pride! Let him now wear scarlet, as the Banner his Ard Ri now bestows upon him!

With these words do I finish my praise, and do my gracious sovereigns, Siegfried and Ragni, do this honourable deed on the Feast of St. Cathan, Anno Societatis XLIX, as they reign wisely in the lands of Ramshaven at Fruits of our Labours VII.

We being right mindful of the enthusiasm, knowledge and skills in which John Moran has displayed in Tudor culinary manners and arts do wish to recognize him with Our Award of the Orion and grant unto him the right to wear the badge of the award. Do hereby recognize such deeds done by her as Our Champion including her tireless efforts as envoy to foreign lands and her dedication to the arts martial . Let all know that she shall henceforth bear a mark of Royal Favour for her virtue and has received from Their Majesty's hand, the Crown’s Favour, and is commended to make display of it so all shall know of the singular favour this Crown finds in her.

AElfwyn et Laganwuda, Order of the Wain, 2014

In the year of the society's incarnation 48 I, Nigel, with the favour of divine grace King of Ealdormere and Adrielle my Queen, led by divine love, foreordained by the same divine right, in the last hours of Our reign, have not been forgetful in the duties of governance and have taken care to commit this to writing so that our words and deeds should not be negated with the passage of time, either through the lack of care of our successors or through some kind of envy or dishonesty. 

With the agreement and authorisation of many nobles, including Our beloved companions of the Wain, We, giving with sincere intent, do bestow upon Mistress Aelfwyn, a grant of arms and do induct her into Our order of the Wain and grant unto her the right to bear the badge of the Order, for she has performed exemplary and long-standing service to Our Kingdom as officer, marshal, artisan, leader, champion, always as one who provides an example of courtesy and chivalry worthy of emulation. On account of such faithful service and loyalty We do further grant this charter bestowing on her for all time that place which is called by rustics the Redwood. In order that the aforementioned Mistress Aelfwyn should favourably possess without intermission this royal gift as long as Ealdormere should thrive, all that is recognised as belonging to that same place by law, both in large and in small matters, in fields, pastures, meadows, woods and fisheries, may the aforementioned Redwood, be free from all worldly impediment, except these three: military service, and the construction of bridge and fortress. The aforementioned Redwood is seen to be surrounded by these bounds. From the Cyningsweg south to Ramsayville, in the east from the green bank to the Morrisionweg. If any, however, should try, against Our wishes, to harm this charter, through the spite of oppressive covetousness, may they, falling down to the swirling masses of noisome darkness, be cursed, into everlasting fire’, where they may be tormented in a cruel punishment by demons with heated iron instruments of torture if they do not change this before their death with appropriate penitence. 

But, so that it will not be terminated as long as Ealdormere prevails, We have also recorded these things in writing. This aforementioned liberty was created in the year of the society's incarnation 48, on this 26th day of April.

Throughout the Society heralds have put quill to parchment many times detailing the deeds that you have performed and preaux knights from all corners of the worlde have sung the praises of your prowess and franchise, so, therefore not to keep any in suspense by a long account, We wish to inform all to whom the present letter come, that, in appreciation of the wholesome advice and assistance that you have personally given to the Royal Household of Ealdormere and most specifically to King Nigel, second of this name, let all know that HIs Grace Brannos shall henceforth bear a mark of Royal Favour for your virtue and you have received from His Majesty's hand, the King’s Favour, and you are commended to make display of it so all shall know of the singular favour this Crown finds in you.

Further Be it known that in gratitude for heartfelt advice and patient teaching in the arts martial that you have offered to any and all who would seek same, that forevermore that this writ shall grant and guarantee free and safe passage.

Specificaly, His Grace Brannos and all that may call themselves friends of His Grace may travel from and to the Midrealm in the character of friendship, to visit according to custom as befits Our love and respect for this man of such noble carriage. Under the patronage and protection of the divine We command all tollgatherers, lords as well as servants, whether on roads or on waters, that no one dare to demand a toll from His Grace or his companions, but let their passage be free and knowing this let be under our protection, and we wish them to be fully free and immune from every charge or toll through all parts of Our kingdom.

Nigel II and Adrielle II, by the grace of arms and inspiration, King and Queen of Ealdormere, [Earl and Countess of Arrochar, Protectors of the Far North, Wardens of Septentrialis, Ard Ri of Lacus Pentamerus and Lacus Ealdormearc,] to Our knights, sheriffs, men-at-arms, constables, armsmen, and coistrels, pay heed.

There are those among us who show great skill with the bow. Indeed, the archers and crossbowmen of Ealdormere are among Our finest warriors and the southern folk quake in fear when they take to the range or the field. One staunch crossbowman has shown great skill and dedication and stands as a sergeant among his peers, and We feel this must be recognized by writ and deed, least the memories of man forget it.

Therefore, know ye that we of Our especial grace, certain knowledge and mere motion have advanced, preferred and created our right trusty and entirely beloved Baron and Pelican, Gunther Wahlstadt of Bremen, a member of Our Order of Thorbjorn’s Hammer.

Having consulted with our Lawspeaker and wise council, both Spiritual and Temporal, We do hereby decree that the aforesaid Gunther Wahlstadt of Bremen is known to be honourable and just and his judgment is above reproach, and he is therefore excused from the restrictions imposed upon the use of the crossbow by Canon 29 of the Second Lateran Council when protecting Ourselves, Our heirs and Their descendents, Our Duchies, Counties, Baronies, Shires and Cantons and any of the people of Our realm, no matter their station.

We have advanced, preferred, dignified, constituted and created the aforesaid Gunther in our Barony of Rising Waters on the feast day of Our Lady of Good Counsel in the forty-eighth year of the Society. In witness whereof We have caused these Our letters to be made patent.

Know ye that whereas the eminence of numerous noblemen and the abundance of great and wise people are the principal ornament and the chiefest support of every Realm, we, at the request of the Prelates and Lords and of the Commonalty of our Realm meeting together in our present Parliament assembled at Caer Draeth, willing therefore to honour and likewise strengthen the Royal scepter by the multiplication of exalted persons, and considering the magnanimity, assiduity and prudent circumspection of our trusty and very dear Johanna Hurst, who, according to her works as head of entourage, toiling in the kitchens of the kingdom and holding the office of minister of arts and sciences has shown herself dutiful and devoted to us, by the declared counsel of our said Parliament have given to her an Award of the Maiden’s Heart. And to that end we have affixed our hand and seal at a Game of Queen’s, on the feast day of Cuthmann of Steyning, in the forty-eighth year of the society.

Among other notable affairs of the realm we consider it to be the most important that it should be fortified by a fitting distribution of orders, dignitaries and offices, supported by sound councils and powerful people. Therefore, as the realm has for a time suffered a manifold decay in names, honours and dignity of degrees, we, regarding with quiet meditation those things by which the same realm can be adorned, and turning our regards to the consideration of our beloved and trusted Gwen Hamilton, and willing that this person should be honoured, have given to her our Award of the Orion, with the common assent and counsel of the prelates, earls, barons and others of our council. Since human frailty is more inclined towards forgetfulness of good than towards longing for eternal bliss, it is necessary to make permanent in writing that which has been done in good faith. Equity requires and reason ordains that those persons virtuous be rewarded for their merits by renown and recognition. Wherefore let those here present as well as the future subjects know, that We, Nigel reiver King by divine Grace and Adrielle his devoted Queen, through consideration not only of common renown but also by the report and testimony of other nobles worthy of credence, are informed of one who has borne himself with dignity and conducted himself honourably so that he deserved well and is well worth.

He has been a steadfast and steady servant, ever willing to take to any task that might need doing and none may doubt, nor even claim with any pretence of truth, that his works have not been many, and his labors great serving Canton, Barony and Kingdom, and his efforts untiring. Be it known, therefore, to the present age and to future generations that we, aided by the advice of our right worthy Order, and assenting to their just requests on account of their memorable faithfulness and service, do hereby elevate Dafydd ap Sion to Our noble Order of the Pelican.

In recognition and thanks for noble service given and in expectation that same shall continue, We likewise give, grant, concede and confirm to the aforesaid Dafydd in perpetuity one hide of land near the bank of the Trent , so that he may be permitted to graze, prune, mow, and hunt. Moreover we have decided that he shall be permitted to come and go securely by water and by land, such that he should not pay tribute or shore-toll.

This We command to be known to all the corners of our realm, and wishing this to remain valid for all posterity, We forbid that anyone, with rash daring, infringe it or in any way attempt to violate it, and command that all are forbidden to oppose, destroy or diminish in any way this privilege which, through Our royal sanction has been granted to Dafydd ap Sion and we validly corroborate this our decree, signed by the seal of our Majesty, witnessed by those who are present at this deed on the 18th day of AS 48 at Tournoi du Coeur de Glace.
