hooves and the crack of shattering lances has since olden times heralded the
coming of a champion; and Whereas (Recipient's name) has shown surpassing
prowess in the saddle; Therefore do We, (Sovereign's name), by right of arms
Sovereign Lord of Meridies, name [him/her] the King's Lancer, and charge
[him/her] with the duty and privilege of riding at Our side and protecting the
Royal Flank. Done this (number) day of (month) Anno Societatis (Society year),
being (year) Gregorian.
