In the land of Ealdormere ,
in the far reaches of the March of St. Martin, there lived a toymaker. Some called him wicked, evil, and demented,
and he said naught to dispel these rumours,
but every act he did belied his noble heart. He was of boundless support
to the people of the March, his toys brought delight to young and old and his
brush illuminated the deeds of the people, and he wielded a rapier with the joy
and strength of a hammer. With largesse freely given, it was always Christmas
in Ealdormere. Seeing this, Trumbrand
and Kaylah, Wandering King and Cheeful Queen, did decide to dispel the rumours
once and for all and to recognize the nobility of heart of Gerrard
Carpentarius. On the eighteenth day of
the month of May, in the forty-eighth year of the Society at their Crown
Tourney, they did bestow upon him a coronet of silver adorned with six pearls
and the rank of Baron of their Court. Let no one gainsay the nobility of this
man, as hands and seal hereby attest.
